City Office Development receives Green Award

Work is due to be completed shortly on 586,000 sq ft office development, situated on a prominent City island site close to Moorgate and Liverpool Street. Solar Green has recently completed the installation of a 750 tube Solar Hot Water system for the 22 storey building, designed by Arup Associates.

The roof mounted Solar Hot Water system will contribute towards 20% of the buildings energy being generated from on site Renewable Energy Sources. The Solar Hot Water system has been integrated into the building design along with a Solar Photovoltaic system and Biomass boiler to help achieve the 20% target. A growing number of new developments within London require 20% of their energy to be generated by on-site Renewable Energy as a condition of receiving planning permission.

The Solar Hot Water system constructed by Solar Green has been designed to generate a significant proportion of the buildings hot water whilst being able to withstand the high wind loadings anticipated at the 22nd level of this building. Solar Green were selected by Balfour Kilpatrick as their specialist sub contractor to carry out the construction of the Solar system which was manufactured by Viessmann of Germany.

The building developed by British Land Securities has been awarded the Green Award by the Estates Gazette in recognition of the buildings green credentials which includes rainwater harvesting, green roof space as well as the Renewable Energy.

It really demonstrates that the latest Renewable Energy systems can be practically incorporated within a design to achieve big savings in Carbon even for commercial buildings of this magnitude.

Solar Hot Water

Is the process of using daylight to generate heat from roof mounted collectors the heat is then transferred to provide hot water. The technology has a very long heritage which has been developed over decades and is proving to be an affordable means of reducing a buildings energy demand and reducing its carbon footprint.

Solar Green

Is a UK leader in the design, construction and servicing of Solar based technology, it’s experience in Solar energy can be traced back to 1996. This experience is widely recognised in the industry and the company counts amongst it’s partners; Sharp, Schuco and Viessmann.
